Do you think of Leadership as a moving target?
A very compelling reason the subject of leadership frustrates many people is leadership is a moving target, an evolving science. Every time a new valid theory propagates enlightenment, another rises to take it’s place. Most of what we have learned recently about leadership is advancing our understanding of the subject and stimulates our individual analysis of what works best for ourselves. However, as we learn and grow our ability to appreciate a deeper meaning in the art of leadership evolves. In other words, our own level of self-actualization is intimately linked to our ability to lead effectively.
Yes, there would have to be a high level of motivation for me to follow my leader into The Valley of Death. Why would I go to great lengths to never return to my comfort zone? An example in the extreme? I’m not so sure about that… Many a traumatic issue aired after work about injustices in the workplace take on the landscape of the dreaded “Valley”. More often than not, the belief that “The Fish Stinks from the Head Down” prevails.
Have we gone full circle here yet? Why yes we have indeed. And therein lies the Wheels of Leadership. There are countless Wheels of Leadership to be sure. But this Blog Wheel is ours! It is ours because it represents our reality, our point in time, our remarkable perspective, our level of understanding, our own level of enlightenment.
So what do we now do with this advantage? My suggestion is, of course, that we explore it for mutual benefit. Let’s apply our experiences and challenges to the process of my Blog. My Blog because I will gladly take responsibility for our journey and be delighted to coach our group. Let’s discuss what the evolution of leadership means to us and what benefit we can draw from our interactions. OK, who’s first?
